i think i've finally figured out where my fancy for redheads began. a few nights ago i stumbled upon hipstermermaid's twitter. obviously my feeling of inferiority towards a hipster, real or fictinal, kept me on "her" page for several minutes. then i started to stare at the photo. and it hit me. it all started with ariel.
back when i first saw the little mermaid i was immediately drawn to this girl. i could dance around with plausible explanations for why this is the case but unfortunately for me my mom has the apparent reason documented in a little book of quotes that she kept when my brothers and i were young and said things.
"ariel is really pretty."
"why's that, ian?"
"because she has big boobies."
i like to think that there was deeper meaning for my attraction to ariel, but that i was just too young at the time to properly describe my feelings. i do know that i was heavily influenced by the media's portrayal of people in society, as evidenced by another quote of mine.
"that guy is really cool."
"why's that, ian?"
"he's wearing lots of chains and other cool stuff."
here's to hoping i've grown.
switching gears, a decent chunk of the RTC heads out of town this weekend for the continental cup in san fran and the world cup and pan am juniors in edmonton. they are all packing bikes 'n getting on planes 'n getting excited. special shout-out to jeff scull, started triathlon training 6 months ago and is lining up in san fran against a solid field in his first draft legal race. i will be staying in town to get my butt kicked by cyclists on tuesday nights, swim some laps in a droopy speedo (makeshift dragsuit!), and coach a kids' tri camp for a couple days next week. i'm hoping to have them shattered by wednesday. that'll be sure to make dorelle look like a saint when she coaches the second half of the week.
