weeks 3 and 4 marathon training

my favourite run in february happened a couple days ago when i ran with my brother. he talked to me about the intense training he's doing, slowed down for me during a brief "calf episode" and urged me to start throwing some speed into my marathon training. i told him that i need some miles in my legs first. he told me this hour long run would be his longest in months. i guess that tells you where we're both at. he's running k's in 2:32 and i'm trying to run a marathon in 2:32.

today i ran to quebec and back just to see if their air is any different. the bridge was windy and the open road felt just like the run course in gold coast worlds back in 2009. the open space makes you feel slow but when you cover the distance you feel accomplished. when i want to feel fast i run at night in enclosed spaces like tunnels or forests. tomorrow i will be running up mont royal to soul search at the top. then i'll run back down.

don't slow down until you cross the line. cheers.

week 2 marathon training: still alive

i haven't changed my mind. i'm still committed to this thing. my star count is growing. the runs are starting to feel more natural and the treadmill has helped me find a steady rhythm on the roads. last night i got kicked off the highway by the cops. when i say the cops, i mean one member of guelph's police department. i know i'm not allowed to run up highway 6 but i couldn't help myself. the side of the highway is so soft and i tend to run further if i don't have the option of turning around. time just flies between distant off ramps. but the cop meant business so i hung my head and waddled back to college ave.

this week had only a few events that weren't conducive to fast running. but in my defense, the beer was free. and i'd be silly to turn down free beer. as they say in my hometown of brisbane, "crikey! granny just rolled over in her grave!" granny doesn't like to turn down free beer and she doesn't approve when others do so.

and when i say the beer was free, i mean that i paid full price for it. but i paid for it with work tips which basically means i was free rolling off the generous customers we serve. huzzah!

week three! feels good
